Starting a discussion about Healing
As you read the four Gospels, apart from the accounts of Jesus trial and death, you notice the narrative is basically teaching-healing-teaching-healing …. and the healings validate the teachings. Is this what the church is called to be doing?
Here are three studies on Expectations, Cures & Mental Health, and Death & Dementia.
Some churches publicise a Healing Ministry, so to get you started here is the leaflet from the mythical church St Gargoyle’s in Barchester.
Each study has a short video introduction, some information to look at, and some questions. There are far too any questions, but hopefully some will be useful in your discussions.
The starting passage is James 5:13-15 Are you hurting? Pray. Do you feel great? Sing. Are you sick? Call the church leaders together to pray and anoint you with oil in the name of the Master. Believing-prayer will heal you, and Jesus will put you on your feet. And if you’ve sinned, you’ll be forgiven – healed inside and out. (The Message version)
After the final session you could discuss what you would put in your own church’s leaflet. Is there anything new you would like to add?
